I‘ve been painting philosophical graffitis for 4 years now.
I made 85 so far, in Escondido will be the 86th.
In my hometown i got a wall roughly 14 x 1050 feet, it‘s an open air gallery and i paint one philosophical graffiti after the other.
I also paint them in legal spaces, abandoned places or commissioned walls.
I‘m planing to do a book, when i made a 100 pieces.
The philosophical graffitis developed out of starting to paint classical graffiti writing in 1989, as a 14 year old kid in the streets. Sometimes giving a small written message next to the piece, which has a long tradition in classical graffiti writing.
To more complex thoughts and written messages next to the pieces. Still trying to keep an easy language and explanation of deeper thoughts. Now catching the people with big photorealistic portraits, giving them the feeling of the happening of art, and then they start reading the lyrics next to the piece, which end up having a stronger impact on some people then I would have thought.

Gloria Favela Rocha https://escoalleyart.com/gloria-rocha-2023/ Fri, 08 Sep 2023 17:39:14 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2239 I am a North County San Diego native and have lived in this community all of my years, working 30 years as a professional muralist and 20+ years as a paint contractor for Rocha Murals & Paint Inc, doing both residential and commercial painting. It’s been a fantastic journey of surprises at every corner and many hundreds of gallons of paint, even automotive paint for vans, trucks, and RVs. A few of my murals have taken a greater part of a year each to complete: Old Palomar Medical Center, 2 at this location, Chicano Park, San Diego, with the tallest at 7 stories. I would say my greatest accomplishment is the Arts for Healing program I created for our local hospitals, Palomar and Pomerado, 10 years ago and stil running, Not far behind is the opportunity I’ve had with young students in elementary and high schools, teaching them the processes of mural artistry. What a great joy they have been. I am most inspired by the spirit of creation. We are far more than our bodies; a lesson that I am continually learning.

“Chu’el Plaza” my current piece , incorporates this Mayan belief . Our ancestors, grandparent, guardians, healers, and teachers pave the way for spirits’, visible and non visible, continual expression of unfolding life.

16’x8’. Mixed media. Acrylic, glass, copper leaf.

Maria Islas https://escoalleyart.com/maria-islas-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 23:55:07 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2246 This mural speaks to my heart.  It was inspired by watching our grandkids Mykl and Melody interact with the monarch butterflies in our back yard. I truly enjoy creating art, while seeing how it continues to evolve with each of the experiences in my life. My art journey continues.

I am a local self-taught artist, and I have been drawing since I was a little girl.  Art has always been my passion.  In my earlier years, I primarily sketched in black and white pencils, and later in colored pencils.  I loved drawing portraits and fashion illustrations.  In college, I studied commercial art for a few years, and also obtained a Bachelors in Business Management.

I raised three beautiful children and worked for the Navy for 38 ½ years. Upon retiring three years ago, I’ve had the joy of babysitting our grandkids. Having more time for my art, I enjoy experimenting with acrylics.  I fell in love with the vibrant colors, which give such life to my art.

Matthew Medina https://escoalleyart.com/matthew-medina-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 23:51:12 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2248 The inspiration for this piece came from a song about being underwater and being isolated from the world around you.  There are two beings in this piece, beings that come together and find comfort in their mutual underwater isolation.

Painting this mural was fun for me.  Working with a larger canvas brought me so much joy. I found myself being carried away by the process, and it reminded me of what I can be capable of when my canvas seems limitless.

I’ve been doing art since I was little. In the past I have found big projects to be intimidating, so in this case it felt good to be able to project my imagination into the art.  I want people to look at the artwork and feel as though they can see into my mind.

I would also like to say thank you to my friends and family who have given me the inspiration to create.

SekohOne https://escoalleyart.com/sekohone-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 23:49:13 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2253 The painting centers around my daughter, an emblem of life and connection. She stands beside a wise and watchful owl, symbolizing the guidance you seek on your path to healing.

To the left, a radiant depiction of energy spirals outward, representing your connection to the spiritual realm. It’s as if your spirit is venturing into the cosmos, exploring the vastness of the metaphysical.

On the right side of the canvas, a majestic Tree of Life stands tall, its roots deeply embedded in the earth, symbolizing your grounding in the physical realm. It’s a reminder of the harmony between the spiritual and earthly aspects of your journey.

This artwork encapsulates the essence of spiritual healing voyage, where my daughter, the owl, and the symbolic elements coalesce to guide you towards balance and wisdom.

Raised in the vibrant coastal town of Oceanside, I am an artist who has been immersed in the world of creativity for as long as I can remember. My journey through art has been a passionate exploration, with a particular fondness for urban and graffiti art, where adrenaline meets the canvas.

My days are consumed by a harmonious blend of work and artistry. Whether it’s putting in the hours at my day job or spending countless moments sketching, customizing, and designing, art is the heartbeat of my existence. I find immense joy in breathing life and color into seemingly mundane canvases, turning them into captivating works of expression.

What drives me as an artist is the relentless pursuit of growth and evolution. I thrive on the challenge of pushing my artistic boundaries and embracing various mediums. Each creation is an opportunity to explore new horizons and incorporate fresh elements into my artistry.

As I continue my artistic journey, I invite you to join me on this exhilarating ride through my world, where passion and creativity converge to create a visual symphony that tells a story all its own. Welcome to my canvas, where imagination knows no bounds.

Christine Ippolito https://escoalleyart.com/christine-ippolito-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 23:41:49 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2233 This painting is meant to refresh the basic substances of “as American as Apple Pie” and the patriotism that is in our souls. We all need to Back the Blue or America will be in tatters. These men and women are human, they engage the harsher side of life, and they are “Code Zero,” that is, police under attack.

Here is an explanation of some of the elements of my design:

The bottom of the flag is in tatters to show what will happen if we don’t back the blue.

The title is meant to be in red, to represent the spilled vital force from our protectors, their blood.

The three officers typify a trinity recognized around the world.

I was born in the land of the original chicken wing, also known as Buffalo, New York.  I am a self-taught artist who is “Peace Love Woodstock,” even though I was caught by my dad when I was leaving to go to the historic concert.

Grand Legacy Tattoo https://escoalleyart.com/grand-legacy-tattoo-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 23:27:52 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2242 The mural is a fun take on the mascot rivalry within the local high school sports and academic programs: the Escondido Cougars, the San Pasqual Eagles, and the Orange Glen Patriots.  The mural is provided as a tribute to them in a unique way.

We created this mural through a collaborative group of tattooists at Grand Legacy Tattoo in Escondido – Stevie, Mike, Henry, Lorenzo, Doug, Tristen, and shop apprentice Kai. We always try to stay involved, contribute, and be part of the art community of Escondido. We wanted to create a unique piece to add to the artwork of the Esco Alley Art project.

Mensah Bey https://escoalleyart.com/mensah-beh-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 23:16:31 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2250 My work explores the juxtaposition between physical and virtual reality via the use of social media. Influences are from Afro-surreal and abstract expressionism in which new worlds are navigated as chronological tales. Raised in a sub-culture of the African-American experience, I often found solace in observance and imagination. Whereas my teachings in the Moorish Science Temple of America instilled pride in my people, the larger society often demonized our experiences. I choose Asiatic subjects as visual affirmations, promising an empowered experience in the future.

Symbolisms are overlaid and personified through figurative subjects. Spirits take form in an evolutionary subconscious, enabling tethered minds to roam freely, yet stay grounded in the world of manifest.

Gloria Aristondo https://escoalleyart.com/gloria-aristondo-2023/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 22:48:26 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2236 I titled my mural Amor y Luz (Love and Light), because I believe that today the world needs Amor y Luz! The mural is in memory of someone very special who left us too soon:

RIP Jesus Casarez, 9/2/1982 – 12/23/2006

I was born in San Diego on August 15, 1979.  The painter Frida Kahlo has been my lifetime inspiration.  A creative mind expresses itself in different ways. I enjoy working with different mediums, but most of my artwork is done in acrylic paint.
