I‘ve been painting philosophical graffitis for 4 years now.
I made 85 so far, in Escondido will be the 86th.
In my hometown i got a wall roughly 14 x 1050 feet, it‘s an open air gallery and i paint one philosophical graffiti after the other.
I also paint them in legal spaces, abandoned places or commissioned walls.
I‘m planing to do a book, when i made a 100 pieces.
The philosophical graffitis developed out of starting to paint classical graffiti writing in 1989, as a 14 year old kid in the streets. Sometimes giving a small written message next to the piece, which has a long tradition in classical graffiti writing.
To more complex thoughts and written messages next to the pieces. Still trying to keep an easy language and explanation of deeper thoughts. Now catching the people with big photorealistic portraits, giving them the feeling of the happening of art, and then they start reading the lyrics next to the piece, which end up having a stronger impact on some people then I would have thought.

Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project https://escoalleyart.com/global-roots/ Wed, 08 Mar 2023 19:56:58 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=2087 Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project is proud to announce our collaboration with Esco Alley Art in Escondido, California where the America Connects West Mural will be installed on Sunday, March 26th, 2023.

America Connects West Regional Mural Mosaic is a work of art showcasing the creativity of more than 1500 participants from America’s Western States, as well as paintings from participants throughout North America who chose to paint a tile in this mosaic. Each participant has contributed their own unique design to create a vibrant and colorful mural that celebrates their connections to the West. The America Connects West Regional Mural is a testament to the power of connection, collaboration, and creativity.

Since 2003, Mural Mosaic has been creating art that celebrates unity and diversity through awe inspiring mosaic productions. Using the Mural Mosaic process invented by artist Lewis Lavoie, the mission of our work is to bring people together in a way that honors everyone’s unique perspectives and experiences. We have produced Mural Mosaics throughout North America, inspiring viewers to recognize the beauty of our differences and come together in united work of art.

Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project is delighted to become part of the Escondido community, to have the opportunity to inspire artists and aspiring artists of the future with this remarkable mural. We hope that it will serve as a source of inspiration for those who view it, and that it will encourage them to explore their creative potential.

“We are beyond excited to have been chosen as the recipient of the America Connects West Regional mural.

Esco Alley Art’s murals are a gift to the community from the Escondido Downtown Business Association, supported by grants, donations and volunteers. We believe that public art is vital to a vibrant and healthy community, and that art should be for all and by all. Our team brings together artists and property owners to repurpose downtown Escondido’s working alleys (forgotten spaces) into vibrant and unexpected outdoor art galleries.

The Global Roots mural expands our vision in a new location and a new medium.  The mural’s location next to Maple Street Plaza will be visible from westbound traffic on Escondido’s iconic Grand Avenue.  The mural’s mosaic medium of individual 6 x 6 tiles has allowed for the involvement of artists from ages 7 to 97, including mural artists, committee members, local business owners, family members, and friends.

As we unveil this exciting new edition of Esco Alley Art, we would like to thank John Paul Catholic University for providing an appropriate and highly appreciated home for the America Connects Western Regional Mural.” Carol Rogers, Escondido Downtown Business Association

Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots is a unique initiative that aims to bring people from around the world together through the power of art. Each collaborative Mural Mosaic production invites people from communities everywhere to connect and celebrate their unity through their diverse expressions of art. With each tile placed in a mural, Global Roots is reconnecting the world through the joy of art – one tile, one mural mosaic, one country at a time.

The Global Roots Project and installation of the America Connects West Regional Mural is funded entirely by its participants including the production and donation of the physical mural to Esco Alley Art.

Hannah Goering https://escoalleyart.com/hannah-goering/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 16:58:51 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1866 I love the process of painting. This painting involved splashing, spraying and brushing diluted pigments in order to convey the definition of joy as it appears in my head. In my head, joy takes the form of colorful, ocean sunsets. Blending my favorite colors together to create these vibrant conceptualizations of joy make my eyes smile each and every time. I am so proud to be apart of Esco Alley Art and I hope your eyes are smiling just as much as mine.

Collin Vowels https://escoalleyart.com/collin-vowels/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 16:52:13 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1862 I’ve been doing art my whole life. My older sister always drew eyes, so I’ve always included eyes in my art. I’m partially color-blind, which means that I can’t see the difference between blue and purple, or between red and brown. I use spray paint and I rely on the name of the color that’s written on the can. Because of this color-blindness, I like to paint in vibrant colors. I was born and raised in San Diego, and recently I’ve been really working to get my art out.

In this painting I’ve incorporated my street art characters. I wanted to show them all together, holding hands, to show peace and unity. I love to do psychedelic, trippy artwork images. When I made this piece, the interesting thing to me will be to find out what other people see that I don’t.

Victor Montoya https://escoalleyart.com/victor-monoya/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 16:50:34 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1868 I grew up in Redondo Beach, and I spent 5 years in the Navy. Then I went to school for 3D modeling and design. I loved it. I’ve always enjoyed making art and my family has always encouraged me. I still do graphic design and marketing. Recently I’ve been working in a wacky, cartoonish kind of style. My art philosophy is “Embrace the Imperfections.”

This painting represents what comes into my mind and all the things that go on in there: the stories, the ideas, the flow of imagination. I believe in challenging a lot of norms. I want people looking at the painting to wonder, “What was this guy thinking?”

Cole the Renaissance https://escoalleyart.com/cole-the-renaissance/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 16:48:52 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1870 This painting explores a core theme in my artwork: being yourself. Often times I find myself questioning why I do the things I love. Why would I spend time on something that gives me delayed gratification when I can scroll through Instagram? A healing process, this painting reminded me to never stop pursuing the things I love, life after all isn’t remembered through mundane memories. Further, by pursuing my passions, I’m continuing to cultivate my joy, and spread love to the people around me.

Medium: Acrylic Paint on Canvas

Year: 2022

Scotty Phanhthilath https://escoalleyart.com/scotty-phanhthilath/ Sat, 12 Nov 2022 16:47:06 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1874 Born and raised in San Diego, I grew up around skateboard culture, graffiti art, and an urban lifestyle. I’m a tattoo artist full time and an all-around artist as well. I’m also a father and a husband: there are other humans that I support and take care of, that also take care of me. As a tattoo artist, I’m used to thinking about the living, breathing being in front of me who has feelings and opinions. But this mural is its own thing, all me.

The “E” in the middle of the painting is there to represent both Escondido and Ecstasy. For me, the painting follows a flow and pleases the eyes. It’s what my brain is thinking about in the moment, checked out of reality and invested in the piece. I block out the life around me and let my painting consume me. In this piece, I used the colors black, white, and gold: black because it is always my background, white to present a strong contrast, and gold to complement the red bricks of the alley. I wanted to make this painting something that the viewer would get sucked into, that if he were to walk away and come back, he would find something different.

Tokeli Baker https://escoalleyart.com/tokeli-baker-2022/ Fri, 11 Nov 2022 07:16:36 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1860 I am a multidimensional artist, working in a variety of media, including painting, music composition, and creative writing. My perspective shifted towards Consciousness after a para-normal psi phenomena experience following a traumatic fall down a flgiht of stairs. My “Intelligence” mural is part of a series of paintings I created called “The Orbs.” The orbs represent a physical representation of meditative states of consciousness outside of space-time. Significant data supports the notion that Out of Body and Near-Death Experiences are commonly known to enhance consciousness and expanded awareness facilitating a move out of Beta brainwave and into Theta and Delta states as in advanced meditation. I have an undergraduate degree in musical theatre from UCSD and a Master’s degree in Dramatic Literature from Tufts University (Massachusetts). Since the accident, I have been teaching meditation locally. For sales inquiries, visit www.tokeli.com

Ben Day Todd https://escoalleyart.com/benjamin-todd-2022/ Fri, 11 Nov 2022 07:09:36 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1858 My piece is a horse and rider, a theme I have been exploring for quite a while. I am fascinated by the symbiotic relationship between animal and human. During my walks in the San Dieguito Valley, I see a lot of horseback riders. Out in the natural spaces there is a sort of timeless feeling to them. I wanted to integrate that theme in my piece. Grand Avenue had its share of horses and riders in its time. It is fun to bring back that imagery. I love prehistoric art in caves. They are the first murals depicting animals. They are the subjects of their livelihood, safety, and environment 30,000 years ago. It was the first thing they painted along with their own hands, something I equally like to portray. My fascination with horses began with my fear of them. They are so big and powerful. It was a theme my mother, who was also an artist, would paint regularly. And perhaps I pulled it out of the collective memory of these cave drawings that have been at the forefront of the psyche that got triggered during a visit to a cave of pictographs in France. I had a lot of fun painting. I haven’t worked this large before. It was exciting. My process is intuitive. I do not start with sketching. I knew I was making a horse and rider, but I did not have a particular composition in mind. Over the course of my process, a lot of layers surfaced. I would paint over and see something else. I kept digging, adding, and subtracting and something came out that was surprising to me that I didn’t know was there. The final result has sort of a dream like quality. It is good to know that it will be out there for everyone to see. It is fun to be able to give that gift without illegally painting on the wall.

Denise Cervantes https://escoalleyart.com/denise-cervantes-2022/ Fri, 11 Nov 2022 07:01:15 +0000 https://escoalleyart.com/?p=1856 My piece is about Nayarit where my parents are from. It is known for artworks that incorporate many symbols using different textiles, beads and threading found in the making of purses and garments. My family is very united. I am first generation here in the US. My parents came here to give us a better life. I want to remind them I am still proud of where they are from. It is still a part of us. Everything I do is for my parents who are Huichol, indigenous people of Mexico from the Sierra Madre Occidental range. I am a big fan of that style of art. Every time I visit, I purchase a piece to bring home with me. I have always wanted to create a painting like this to showcase my culture and I knew instantly I wanted to do something like this. I love and work with a lot of color and because Huichol art is super colorful, I can relate to it. The mural touches upon different parts of me. It is made up of two panels. The bottom panel has a Huichol girl in the center. She is wearing a garment with the symbol of a bird. There is also a deer in the Huichol style of art with all the symbols. Above the deer I put a cornfield. Agriculture is big over there. And to the right of her I bring in a little bit of the village called Pericos where my parents are from. It means parrot, thus the parrot in the mural. On top I placed the town center where everyone gathers. It is normally full of color. Right now, it is a bright pink. That is where all the celebrations take place. It is a big thing. I added a lot of different beads to emphasize the beading they do. Toward the top is a Huichol man playing a violin. The ocean and fishing have significance so that is also represented. Abundant waterfalls are also in the piece as is a church, religion playing an important role in their lives. This is my first time doing a big piece like this. I have been an artist since after high school. I took some college courses. I have painted a lot of portraits of people who have passed away. I wanted to showcase a different style of art with scenery, landscape, and symbols – super detailed. I wanted to put as much on the canvas as I can so people can see what I am able to do.
